Description:  Skeletal dysplasias are also referred to as dwarfism. It is a group of disorders that are related to the development of bones and cartilage. Dwarfism may be disproportionate with the phenotype of short limbs. However, there is also proportional dwarfism where all bones are affected equally. Skeletal dysplasia 2 observed in labradors was reported as a mild form of disproportionate dwarfism. Dogs affected by skeletal dysplasia typically have short forelegs, but with normal body length and width.

Inheritance: autosomal recessive

Mutation: c.143 G>C in COL11A2 gene

Sample: EDTA whole blood (1.0 ml) or 2 buccal brushes. For official purposes, the confirmation of the dog’s identity by Veterinarian is recommended.
